“The World Is Yours”

How will this world change for the better in my lifetime? How can I have a positive impact on the people close to me, as well as the larger system as a whole? Am I capable of expressing productive views on the systemic issues I’ve observed? Will I, one day, be capable of conversing with others to help them shed unhealthy ways of thinking? Who knows?

All I know is that I truly love being alive. I truly love experiencing this roller coaster of life. There’s nothing I’d rather be doing.

My roommate once asked me, “If you could go anywhere right now, where would it be?” My answer: “I’m exactly where I want to be at this moment.”

I feel that way still, now. And I hope I can continue to feel that way for the future. There’s no reason to let negativity bring you down. There is light all around you.

Step outside. Breathe the beautiful air. Smell the scents on the wind. Feel that wind against your skin. Put your feet in the sand. Rub dirt between your hands. You are home. This place is where you’re meant to be.

If you don’t feel that way, make a change. Find a new place to call home. This world is vast. There’s no reason to settle for a place that doesn’t bring you joy and abundance on a regular basis.

Humans are nomadic. We are extremely adaptable. We have the power to live comfortably in many different settings. But we must regain the ability to listen to the environment and relearn what it means to coexist, peacefully, with Nature.

We have been selfish for too long, but we must be careful not to swing too far in the direction of the selfless. The self is a vital part of our experience. We must listen to our urges and our desires. They always have something to teach us, and the people around us, even if those lessons are sometimes incredibly painful.

Don’t be afraid of pain. Use it as a learning tool. Be happy that you’re feeling anything in the first place. Numbing ourselves to the world is a dangerous trend. Don’t accept numbness. Demand feeling. Demand emotion. Demand joy. Don’t settle for mediocrity. Find what you want to create. Find what makes you smile and laugh.

We can all laugh more. After all, the only side effect I’ve observed after an extended period of deep stomach laughter is a meagerly annoying case of hiccups. When put in that way, I’d prefer to suffer a case of hiccups daily. That way I know I’ve laughed, I know I’ve smiled, I know that I’m living.

How will you approach this life?

Don’t be afraid to err on the side of positivity. Don’t accept negativity as the norm. You can make a change for the positive. “The world is your oyster.” Don’t be afraid to take chances and see where they lead.
